PostSubject: A Brother or Sister to 860871   Sat Dec 12, 2009 1:39 am

Today I was registering this Forum on the Open Directory Project.

Going through the directories I saw a site

1962 E-Type Jaguar No. 860876 - A one-owner car, now residing in Australia. Covers the history of the car from new, including photographs of its restoration in the mid-1980s.

I couldnt believe my eyes Shocked this is the nearest I have seen a car mine 860871.

It turns out to be owned by a keen enthusiast and it is a very special car. Smile

Quote from the site:-

From enquiries through the internet and specialist Jaguar Magazines and Clubs, this car is possibly the oldest one-owner E-Type in Australia and the third oldest one-owner E-Type in the world.

Few of its stats:-

Jaguar E Type FHC Chassis No. 860867, Engine No. R5312-8

Build Date 10-Sep-1962, Delivery Date 7-Dec-1962

Ians Site:-

http://www.ianricho.id.au/E_Type/e_gallery.htm

My cars stats:-

Jaguar E Type FHC Chassis No. 860861, Engine No. R5780-9

Build Date TBC, Delivery Date 25-Sep-1962

If you own a car near 860871 please post your details I, and am sure Ian would love to hear about it

Another strange thing is Ian has also had a 420G which I am to get next to add to my collection smoker

Hiya.

Well you've confused me a little with the post, as you seem to be quoting a few chassis numbers.

Anyhow, more to the point, I own FHC chassis number 860868. From memory only (can't get my weary bum off the sofa to go and look!!!) I think mine was registered November 1962.

When I was doing the body on mine, I unearthed the body number on the rear number plate panel. I think this was about 120ish. Making it an early shell.

Just wondered if yours was similar? Mine had converted DHC doors and DHC seats, low roofline etc.

Shaun.

Hiya Clive.

I've been and had a look. Mine was registered 2 November 1962. I have an old green log book too, but only a continuation one from the early 70s.

I've always been intriuged by mine as it has lots of very early features. When I looked into them years ago I dated the car as roughly November 1961.

Obvious things like the bulkhead was pressed on the early concrete tooling, flat floor, low roof line (about 1/2" lower if I remember rightly, alloy dash, drop head seats, and the factory converted doors etc. It probably had the external bonnet locks, but the bonnet had been changed when I bought it back in '85 or '86 - can't remember without looking.

I always presumed that the car had been built and then sat around for a year for some reason??? I guess this would be confirmed if your doesn't have these same features?

Looking at your seats, I'd say they're the later type - what about the other bits?

This project has been on hold for too may years now - mainly down to houses, kids and gardens... SO I've decided to get a few other projects sorted this year, and I will re-start this as my New Years Resolution.

The vast majority of the photo's I have are pre-digital. I have about 10 albums full of the body rebuild I did, and although I will scan a few when I start my rebuild thread to see where the project started, I won't be doing them all!

The car is now in paint, and ready to be fitted up. Last time I worked on it was 13 years ago (!!!). The early birth of my first daughter caused the 'pause' Laughing

Shaun,

If yours is a flat floor it will be one of the first 500 made cloud9

As you'll see by my restoration thread further down in this section mine was restored 78-80 not 100% as it was, it has a 4.2 gearbox which I only found out over winter as it has a breather on it, it also has a 3.07 ratio rear axle nice Exclamation

But a few other things arent right no ali on the dash etc washere jets are S3 washer bottle S1 4.2 all things which I'll change but as read more on the subject the more I find is wrong.

Plus i have some very knowledge friends who help spend my money Laughing

The longer you let it sit the longer you will leave it Shaun, start doing your plan of action scratch and working out your costings if you need help on suppliers or anything PM me and I'll send you my mobile we can have a chat goodjob

Look forward to your project thread, you can always start it now with a bit of history etc behind the car, what youve done so far etc.

I look forward to reading it. study

Get it done, before youre putting it off again because you have a wedding to pay for good idea
