Folks!
Believe it or not I have a hard time getting back to this thread...I forget where it is!

The answer to this last question is "Road and Track" magazine.

I wonder tho is that magazine anywhere in Europe?
If not it would be way too obscure.

I like it when people get the answers once in a while.

Alright I will think of yet another one in a minute....or two...

Wha...?? Waking up from a massive migraine...

Just thinking of this today in fact, I really don't want to make things so hard and obscure no one gets the answers, that is no fun at all.
Sometimes i even forget the answers and I have to go and look them up...
Monday should see a fresh one!

May take a different tack on this one.

PostSubject: Re: Duane's Classic Jaguar Quiz   Sat Jul 07, 2012 1:34 pm

So my friends, it does seem like I am having trouble staying on track with this quiz thing, which I spend wayyyyy more time thinking about than you may believe.

In that spirit I would like to ask an official question that in the real Jaguar competition would not count as anything but a warmup question but just for fun here it is:

There are so many incredibly beautiful places in the world, where in your opinion is the most beautiful place to be, and give two reasons why?

Now then, before you go off thinking I have gone bonkers think about it, when revealed this will prove to be a Jaguar related question.
However there may be a few right answers and I will accept some interesting abstract answers as well.
Furthermore there may be and probably will be more than one winner.

After I have chosen the best answer I will reveal my answer and we will all toast each other with a dram of scotch or what have you.

So go to it!!!!M The most beautiful place on earth and two reasons why!!

Jaguar rev counter starts.... now!

The most beautiful place on earth (for me) is inside my MK 10.
The Edwardian feel of that interior and all that wood.
The regal feeling of graceful motion when the car is moving.

Second reason is the smiling faces of (mostly Brit expats) who tell stories of seeing them as kids and being taken by the size and elegance.

Exact words used by a Scot who accosted me in a Petrol station.
My parting words to him at which we both laughed:
"My mother was Scottish, my father was Irish and my cars are English"

So please chime in with your answers to the most beautiful place on earth.
I promise I will get a "REAL" question by Tuesday Afternoon 4 PM New York time.

Hope you enjoyed this umm distraction.

Duane.

The first 3 lines of your post. wow
My wife and I have been concerned recently about the amount of other drivers that have ended up with having to wear neck braces and some that have been admitted to spinal units as a result of the instant strain imposed on their necks from the sudden jerking of their heads to get a look at the Zenith as we drive past or stop at lights.
Furthermore, we are becoming quite paranoid and embarrassed to drive our car as we feel we may cause accidents due to other admiring drivers that do silly things to express their approval of our 420G. Things like slowing down abruptly in other lanes, just to smile and give a thumbs up, lane jumping to get a better look, rolling down windows whilst driving and verbalizing their admiration, etc, etc, and the list goes on and on.
Enzo Ferrari once said the E-type was the sexiest car he had ever seen.
I don't disagree, but if that's the case sex aside, then the MK10 must be the most enviable and desirable by my reckoning.

The imaginary Don Draper said:
"You have to have a cold shower after getting out of a Jag, Jaguars are pornographic"

Yup, you get used to the attention, eventually. Very Happy

BTW Charles, your answer counts as a winner too.
Told yah all this was a feel good warm up question.

Ah yes time for another Jaguar trivia question and this time it is rather more earthy than the last one which may have been a bit esoteric.

So when I say that the most beautiful place in the world is behind the wheel of a Zenith, I am looking out the lovely bonnet at the famous and marvelous leaping cat.

And so, who can tell me who it was that designed and sculpted the cat on the bonnet?

And that my friends is an official question!!
And for the prize which is a pat on the back and honour mention here.....

GO!!

Ooh the names that pop back from history!
This is a really cool refresher course of akll those involved in Jaguar's history!

No, Not Gordon Crosby.

BTW, I am excited and hyperventilating to see that reggie will drive again!

Remember Clive, you have one of the very last Zenith's and I have one of the very first. A pair of book ends that illustrate the start, development and finish of a very important line.

Cheers to you and Reggie!

Oh boy, the names that pop up.

No, not the one we are looking for.

For a clue he was also instrumental in the choice of the name "Jaguar" when the name "SS" had become tainted by its symbolic use by the Nazi's special division called "Schutzstaffel".

Don't know if that helps you at all but there it is!

OK Gents, is it time for the answer?

I will post it tonight around 9 PM tonight, Monday July 29th New York time.
Bearing in mind that Midsomer Murder's is aired here on Monday nights beginning at nine PM. so it will be just before or about an hour after 9 PM.
Hmmm, a future clue perhaps?

Till then we are still open for biz as usual.

BTW New York time is the same as Toronto time, just trying to be a bit pretentious that's all Laughing LOL

Cheers!

Hi Clive:

I am actually not in NYC, but one of my daughters lives there tho.
I am in Toronto but in the jet setter lingo Toronto time means nothing..its always New york, London (England), Beirut (Lebanon) Abu Dhabi etc...
SO that is the pretentious part of saying "New York time" and hence the "LOL".
I remember you were in New York recently I actually made a comment on that.

Yes, my kids have moved out all over the continent it seems.
Nice to have a kid that can afford an NYC apartment at 20 years old on her own!
Must have done something right somewhere eh?

Tick tick tick...

Midsomer murders marks the end of the contest!

#^&*()&()O%^&*()+()*)(&)(^

That's what I think of this !@#$%^&*()&*^%$&*() internet connection!!!!!!!!!

I had a lovely, flowing interesting brief story written about Bill Rankin who is the man who we are looking to salute here.
But in mid send the connection stopped and when I resent, I lost everything.
Now Midsomer Murders is 1/2 over and I am depressed.

Oh well, so Bill Rankin is the man who came up with a list of animal and fish names that W. Lyons would peruse and choose from. The name Jaguar had an exciting sound to it and was chosen. Also, Bill Rankin was a keen amateur sculptor and went forth to design our favorite bonnet mascot in all of automotive history!

So there you have it, a reasonable facsimile of what I lost in the translation.

So the next time you want to bet someone a pint o' Guinness down to the pub, try this one and Cheers to the winner!
Whoever you are.

Look for another brain twister in the next day or two.

Duane

TADADA**********

Another question!

This is an easy one. In fact it is so easy anyone can get it.
Or can they?

What was the VERY FIRST sports car in the Jaguar family?

And why was it given that odd name?

(Starter piston in hand)

GO!

NOTE To the IOC:

Please do not take any references that may include the operation of a starters pistol to be a reference to any sporting events including those currently being operated in the city of Lond** England. There is no intention to engage the image of the Olym***s or any other sporting events here on this post nor on this website.
Also any reference to bagels on this contest is purely coincidental and bears no purposeful resemblance to anything to do with the Oly***cs.

Thank you
