Hi Guys,

one of our members has bought a MK10 in the UK he is driving it back to Monaco
for the cars retirement Laughing

He has had it checked over before his journey:

"So far i ask the mechanic to check and change oil , filter , water . Car brake are ok and oil pressure ok that all i know and been done
The ignition was check and point ok as well"

Any other things for him to check before his 1600Km journey Question

He will be reporting on his journey for a future E-magazine….

No mention is made of the cars immediate history but I'ld also be wanting to check the tyres for crazing/wall damage, especially on the inside walls. Don't forget to check the spare...
Might also be worth changing the thermostat unless it's a new one already. How are the power steering hoses? How is the gearbox/transmission fluid and check that the hoses in and out of the oil cooler are serviceable. (If they go you've got no chance of spares in the middle of France!)
Assuming the car passed an MOT reasonably recently but might be worth having a little bounce on each of the shocks too.
One final thing, make sure you are on good terms with your bank manager as you'll need him each time you fill up....
other than that I think I'd be good to go..

Check the hoses. When i drove mine home the lower radiator hose exploded when eased off the accelerator after exiting the highway. Luckily there was a Auto store nearby and i was able to buy a hose and make it fit. Wasn't fun sitting on the side of the road trying to carve a 45 year old hose and clamp off with a leathermans.
